Lama Bomproof's stilt try-out

For those of you who can fit in my shoes,
I've got a pair of Lama's stilts to test, twist, and generally abuse before giving our opinion in stiltdancers tribe.
I wear size 11 converse, bolted down and a rear calf cup,
so if you're into giving them a go, let's set a day for stilting!

I have a good soccer field near my house if we wanna play soccer,
but that may challenge the hydrophobic among us who fear crossing the bridge...
I'm in Oaktown, baby!

I'm thinkin the 1st of June, next sunday.
I can be swayed into taking it to the city, but would prefer folks come here so we can re-tip folks stils before we play soccer.

Holla here or PM me if you are driving and need directions.
We'll do a pickup from BART for those carless cityfolk brave enough to ride the tunnel...
(I know, it seems so far away! )

Dear Stilters....
Thank you so much for the encouragement and the inclusion. Yesterday was my first festival and big public to do on my stilts and I loved the waves over the crowd, the sharing of cocktails, the laughter and hugs that you as a community shared with me. I have been so excited to be jumping around and using them on my own and now that I have this new community I am ever MORE excited!!! YIPEEEEEEE!
Thanks for the love... see you high soon!

The Circus is taking over the San Francisco Streets!

The Carnival Takes Over The San Francisco Streets!

Ahhh yes, my beautiful family – it is happening!
An idea bred in our dear Douglas’s noggin’ for the opportunity to take some pretty pictures of beautiful people in interesting settings (or vice versa vice, vice vice versa, any way you want it) this Saturday, December 22nd we gather and call the streets ours!

This is a time of celebration, so let’s make this Solstice, the darkest day of the year, shine with colors that only those of the Circus wear – let’s friggin’ BLIND the confused passerby with our beauty, shed our own light, dark, odds and delicious ends, and create an exquisite mayhem!

This is purely Doug’s idea, but I think I’ll throw a bit more delicious magick into it, as this opportunity is far too good to pass up, and for some reason, the guy has given me free reign for the gathering of people… and I’ve decided that it’s time to shake some dust!

We’re making this an event.

This will be purely a playtime, joined by members of our dear friends and family (and Top Royalty of the San Francisco Circus Scene) VAU de VIRE SOCIETY & GOOFERMAN, so get your sweet, twisted asses in gear and come play with us. We’ll be doing what we do and looking our best, roaming the streets and finding various San Francisco scenes to play on and around, titillating the innocent passerby, and letting *them* shoose what kind of dreams they want to go home with. We won’t be cooped up in a club or ruled by the laws they need to abide by, not constricted by the limitations in the corporate world – this is OUR FUCKING DAY!

Let’s face it – the goddamn bunnies (gods, I loathe bunnies) have theirs, the Santa’s have theirs, the pirates, zombies, Pee Wee’s – the list goes on. Well, my dear, dear beautiful Circus Family, THIS will be ours. You know as much as I do how needed it is, and it’s far past due. (If it were a library book, we’d be fucked.)

The route for this Saturday is still being figured out by Doug, but the meeting place for this first year will be the Xenodrome, on 26th and Portrero in San Francisco.

The actual day it happens in the future will very likely change to a warmer one later, but this is the first, annual or whenever we feel like it, and like the Carnival, it could show up anywhere, anytime.

Please come this Saturday - to the very first of many - CARNIVALIA!

We will be thrilled to see you!

*** Doors, preparation and PHOTOS at Xenodrome - 9:00am, with Douglass & possibly Nightshade shooting pictures in our beautiful sets.

***Leaving Xenodrome at 11:30am, as sharp as we can get it!

The route is at this point a secret (even to us) and at times even might be decided by consulting the Oracles, so get your asses there by the time we leave, okay?

*Dress in your circus best, but dress warm – the weather is supposed to be a bit chilly, but no rain.

>>>Added Bonus for this day! <<<
After Carnivalia, our dear friend Mark Growden is playing at 12 Galaxies for a Solstice Celebration with Tobias, The Nekyia, & others!

This year the Fire Arts Festival at The Crucible will be having a night of fiery circus fun!
We need stilters, lot's of them!!
If you would like to be a part of this evening, on July 14th, please contact me for further details.

We've stilted this event for the last two years, this will be our third year.
It's always loads of fun and just keeps getting better.
Below is the blurb and line up for the evening from The Crucible website (www.thecrucible.org/fireartsfestival/).
The line up of entertainers is pretty fantastic...

"Take a tumble down the rabbit hole into an otherworldly carnival of fire. The night comes alive with lightning from Tesla coils and eruptions of fire. The circus was never like this, with performances from Mark Bamuthi, Prescott Circus, Vatra, Loco Bloco, Ultra Gypsy, Copper Lantern, El Circo, VonStilt Family, XENO, DJ Vordo, Yard Dogs Road Show, and an eclectic collection of fiery circus performers."

Hope you can make it out to play with us... !

Hey everyone, If you didn't get a chance to come on the playa, or even if you did... make sure you come stilted to decompression for some High JinX at GooFerFisH (Dustfish+Gooferman) and C.S.B.

Also, its not a bad idea to take MTs little course on how to fall (in the park) and then come on over for a drink or two or three or floor.

THe ever luscious DIVA will be on Bar along with a whole fabulous cast of characters to make you laugh, cry and pee till it hurts.

wanted to post a little sad message about how i totally failed to find any of you on the playa. critical stilts has been one of my favorite events on the playa the last two years, but this year my afternoon got tossed into a level of insane that was totally ridiculous. i had multiple *commitments* that involved *knowing the time* that afternoon, and it suckedass. making myself be one more place sounded like pure hell.

en-ee-wayze. that's all. but I MISSED YOOOOOU!!!

is it to soon to start planning a decom meet-up?

a friend of mine just got stilts, and she asked me to help her get up for the first time. i learned using a rope tied between two trees, on a nice flat lawn, and would love to show her that way. but...

in general, do you guys have any suggestions for a where? preferably in the city. just a flat lawn i guess would be enough, though i'd really like to have two things to tie a rope to... the hayes green (at the temple) has a good lawn, but no trees.

other thoughts?

how do you teach people?

NO SPECTATORS DAY! - July 31st, San Francisco

Since 1998, by declaration from then-Mayor Willie Brown, July 31st
commemorates NO SPECTATORS DAY in San Francisco. To celebrate, we'll
have two events that converge:

- the 2nd Annual Burning Man pARTiciPARADE!
Last year was a BLAST! Be ready to bring your mobile art, acoustic
instruments, drums, kazoos, signs, and costume creations to the
gathering point at 1PM on Sunday, July 31st. We'll march to our own
drummers at 2PM sharp, make several stops here and there along Lower
Haight Street and finish up by joining the festivities at Hayes Green.
See http://www.burningman.com for further details and the starting
location (will either be Alamo Sq or Buena Vista Park--TBD).

- Black Rock Arts Foundation COMMUNITY ART CARNIVAL at the Hayes Green

Black Rock Arts Foundation
Community Art Carnival
at the Hayes Green
Sunday, July 31st
12:00 Noon - 5:00 PM
FREE and Open to All!

The Black Rock Arts Foundation is thrilled to host the first annual
Community Art Carnival at the Hayes Green. This festive and
family-friendly event will feature puppet making, puppetry by Monkey
Thump puppet troupe, musical performances by soprano Marisa Lenhardt,
accordionist Linda Robertson, and One People Voice Balinese Gamelon
Orchestra, origami and paper
flower making, interactive art installations and demonstrations. We will be
holding the first-ever M.O.O.P. Olympics, where kids of all ages can
participate in a 'Leave No Trace' training and then begin foraging for
Matter Out of Place (M.O.O.P.). (Prizes will be awarded for the most
trash collected, the largest piece of trash, the strangest, the most
colorful and more.) The Black Rock Roller disco will provide roller
skates and
skating music at 2:00 PM, and the costume-clad Burning Man mobile art
"pARTiciPARADE!" will join the festivities around 2:30PM. Bring a picnic
and join strolling clowns, musical performers and friendly people for a
fun day in celebration of community-based art!

Hey SF Stilty Folks.....Atom, MT and I are going to stilt-up and rock carnival this Sunday. If there is anyone who would like to join us, please let us knw so we can get together. The parade starts at 9:30 at 24th and Bryant. and shoots down 24th before going to Mission St.

I don't know what people's schedules are, but we should try to get there aS early as possible. We can meet at CELLspace for pre-game coffee and the whatnot and then just walk down there. Its also a good place to set up a home-base because its close to where the parade stops and the festival begins. Post up and lets get together...I heard the Unimog is gonna be in the parade.

Stilt and Aerial workshop in Berkeley

Hey all tall ones,

I'm going to be helping out with this workshop.
If you've ever wanted to add yet another aerial element to
your stilt dancing, now's the time to try it. Bounce on bungees
on your stilts or hang from a trapeze! Good for all levels of stilters:
beginners don't have to be afraid of falling when connected to bungees - you're already suspended! and more advanced stilters will definitely find
new challenges in the air.

come one come all!
--kiran

Stilt Dancing & Bungee taught by Cherie Carson
Mondays, June 6 and 13
6:00-8:00 PM
8th Street Motivity Studio (on 8th near Dwight in Berkeley)
Learn the basics of stilt walking and dancing. We will also integrate bungee and trapeze while building our stilt dancing vocabulary.
This workshop explores the use of stilts in three levels-on the floor, on the stilts and in the air. Let your creativity soar!

Fee: $60 for both workshops/$40 for one
Limited to 12 participants

Email cac1000@earthlink.net for registration form or go on line at http://www.movingout.org to register directly using PAYPAL.

Who's down to boogie?
What's your schedule like, and do you have the availibilty to take a series or should we all chip in for a private class among us?
What styles interest you?
What style of dance have you studied?
Could you teach/share?

From a private message I got re: Dustfish

were you stopped on like 28th or 29th street
right near broadway back in mid february by a
purple mini -van while you walked on stilts
wearing some traditional chinese silk looking
stuff? and then asked a bunch of eventually
anoying questions by ME, the driver of the
purple mini van while middle-aged white ladies
who were apparently not from here looked on
slightly amazed?

> Nope, that would be Lee, one of my crew...

please thank lee for his tolerance that day. it was a rather amusing scene - me playing tourist for the shy ladies in a strange land. i should have been videoing.

Keep on touching lives!

So here's the scoop-
We've now got stiltdancers@gmail.com to throw out for images to come back to us. Use it on any gig, and make sure to tell them Hi res images are great- we've got a gig of storage! If you wanna check for images, let me know and I will throw you the password... Please be cool and don't use this email for spamming or other nefarious activities.

Atom and I ordered freebie cards from Vistaprint to throw out to photographers until we get a rockin image we want for photo cards at a later date.
